Napoleon's Coat Sold for $4.4 Million

On November 14, 2025, a diamond brooch lost by Napoleon Bonaparte during his retreat from the Battle of Waterloo was sold at a Sotheby’s auction for $4.4 million. This was reported by the Associated Press.

Although the initial estimate for the brooch was $200,000, the final price increased significantly. The piece of jewelry was discovered in Napoleon's personal belongings, which were retrieved from a carriage, and it later remained in the collection of the Hohenzollern royal family for over 200 years.

The centerpiece of the brooch is a diamond weighing over 13 carats, surrounded by smaller stones. During the auction, a large green beryl stone, which was rumored to have been worn by Napoleon during his coronation, was also sold.
