Samarkand resident fined for illegal tree cutting

In Samarkand, a resident who cut down trees without permission was ordered to pay more than 25 million soums in penalties.

After a video spread on social media showing long-standing trees being cut down in the “Vatanparvar” neighborhood, the city ecology department reviewed the situation.

The inspection found that the resident, without any permits, cut down 7 fruit and ornamental trees, as well as 10 shrubs growing in natural conditions. An administrative report was filed against the offender and a fine of 10.3 million soums was imposed. In addition, he was required to pay 15.45 million soums in compensation for environmental damage.
