The project for mothers returns at the Chess Olympiad

At the Chess Olympiad to be held in Uzbekistan in 2026, FIDE will relaunch the ChessMom project. This project is aimed at supporting professional mother-chess players, enabling them to successfully combine childcare and their sports careers.

Within the project, participants will receive financial assistance to attend the Olympiad together with their child and one accompanying person. Mothers with children under the age of two will be eligible to participate in the 2026 Olympiad.

FIDE will support ten top-rated chess players, including at least one participant from each continent. Under the program, expenses of up to 1,000 euros for the accompanying person's airfare will be covered.

The child and accompanying person will be provided accommodation and meals as official members of the delegation. Applications may be submitted by national federations or by the chess players themselves.

Applications require information about the chess player, the child, and the accompanying person, as well as letters written by the player and the federation. The first version of the ChessMom project was implemented at the Olympiad held in Budapest in 2024.

Six mother-chess players from different countries around the world were supported in that initiative.
