Former Barcelona midfielder Igor Korneev harshly criticized the Catalans’ defensive performance in their match against Espanyol in Round 18 of the Spanish league. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.
Despite the issues, the team led by Hans-Dieter Flick won the away Catalan derby 2–0.
“Huge credit to Espanyol. I think they lost unfairly. Barcelona were saved by individual actions from the players. Barcelona’s defense played disgracefully — it’s a shame,” Match TV quotes Korneev as saying.
In Korneev’s view, Espanyol could have not only won this match but also prevailed by a large margin. However, Barcelona were rescued by goalkeeper Joan Garcia: he had moved from Espanyol and was met with strong disapproval from the home fans in the game against his former club.
