Within the next 20 years, robots and artificial intelligence (AI) may completely transform the global labor market. This was stated by renowned futurist and technological analyst Adam Dorr. According to him, if society is not prepared for change, the upcoming labor revolution could lead to mass unemployment, social unrest, and global inequality. However, if this process is managed correctly, humanity can expect a prosperous and wealthy future.
Adam Dorr is the director of research at the analytical institute “RethinkX” in the United States. He and his team have studied technological development over thousands of years and identified the patterns of technological transformation. They claim that any new technology, once it enters society, achieves complete dominance within an average of 15–20 years. This process has already begun in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics.
“Artificial intelligence is competing with human labor. It can work cheaper, faster, and more efficiently than humans in any field. No matter what job you do — in the future, machines will do it better,” says Dorr.
According to him, machines and robots will gradually replace humans not only in industry but also in medicine, education, law, and even social sciences. Of course, some professions — such as politicians, sports coaches, ethicists, and even sex workers — will remain for a certain period, but these sectors are not large enough to employ all of humanity.
Dorr emphasizes that similar large-scale changes have occurred in history — cars replaced horse-drawn carts, gas lamps were replaced by electric switches, and film cameras gave way to digital technologies. These shifts have always reduced human involvement and required adaptation to new demands.
He also adds that if this technological revolution is managed positively, humanity will step into an era of “super-prosperity.” In such conditions, people will not be forced to work and will have the opportunity to devote their time to spiritual growth, creativity, science, and family relationships. “We must figure out how to spend our time. This may start by studying the lifestyles of the rich. Some may have led meaningless lives, but others found complete satisfaction in life,” he says.
According to the futurist, in order for this process to proceed successfully, humanity must begin testing new social systems, financial models, and wealth distribution mechanisms now. For example, like the open-source software model — free, publicly beneficial resources may become more widespread.
His book titled Brighter: Optimism, Progress and the Future of Environmentalism is also written in this spirit — it is filled with belief in technological progress, clean energy, and humanity’s bright future.
But Dorr warns: “We don’t have much time. This wave may not only change the labor market but also eliminate it. The most important task for humanity is not to deny this process, but to prepare for it.”
The final conclusion is this: if humanity does not adapt to the demands of the new era, robots may take not only our jobs but also the meaning in our lives. The time has come to prepare today for tomorrow. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
