
Since ChatGPT launched in November 2022, the number of new job postings for young professionals in the UK has fallen by nearly a third, reports The Guardian, citing data from search engine Adzuna.
Companies are increasingly using artificial intelligence to handle simple tasks instead of hiring students or recent graduates. As a result, vacancies for graduates, internships, and roles for those without a university degree have dropped by 32%.
Currently, entry-level roles make up 25% of the UK job market, compared to 28.9% in 2022.
The steepest decline has occurred in retail, where job opportunities for young professionals have fallen by 78% since November 2022. The IT sector saw a 55% drop, and accounting and finance declined by 51%.
Dario Amodei, CEO of AI company Anthropic, warned that in the next five years, AI could eliminate half of all entry-level office jobs and increase unemployment by 10–20%. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
