Uzbekistan is taking further steps to protect children from various forms of violence. However, incidents involving indecent behavior toward minors—such as inappropriate messages or images sent via the Internet—still surface occasionally. These actions will now carry stricter penalties, Ta’lim xabarlari reported.
During meetings of political party factions in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the draft law titled “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with improving the system for protecting children from violence” was actively discussed.
According to the draft, criminal liability will be increased for indecent actions committed against persons under 16 years of age via telecommunication networks or the Internet. In addition, repeat offenses within a year involving the possession of pornographic materials featuring minors will lead to criminal charges.
The adoption of this law aims to enhance legal guarantees for protecting children from sexual exploitation and child trafficking. It also ensures proportionate punishment for offenders and introduces public oversight of individuals previously penalized for failing to pay child support.
