A new stage of defense cooperation has begun between Türkiye and Syria. A representative of Türkiye’s Ministry of Defense announced that, under the agreement signed between the two countries, Ankara will provide Damascus with weapons, military equipment, and logistical support. Additionally, Türkiye intends to share its knowledge and expertise with Syria.
Background of the Agreement
This announcement came one day after Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Kasra signed a memorandum on military training. The document aims to further strengthen military cooperation between the two nations.
Syria’s Request
According to reports, last month Damascus officially requested Türkiye’s assistance in strengthening its defense capabilities. Following this request, rapid negotiations were held, resulting in the current agreement.
Türkiye’s Commitments
The representative of Türkiye’s Ministry of Defense emphasized that, in addition to supplying arms and military equipment, the agreement includes training Syrian troops, sharing tactical experience, and assisting in modernizing Syria’s defense system.
It is expected that this agreement will open a new chapter in bilateral relations, expand regional military cooperation formats, and enhance strategic defense capabilities.
