47 landfill sites closed in Uzbekistan

In various regions of Uzbekistan, 47 municipal waste landfills were reclaimed and closed in 2024 and at the beginning of 2025. These works were carried out by the Directorate for the Management of Landfills under the Agency for Waste Management and the Development of the Circular Economy.

The closed landfills are located in Karakalpakstan, Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent, Fergana, and Khorezm regions. In all these areas, the land was restored by covering the sites with a layer of soil.

In 2025, work was completed at 18 landfills with a total area of more than 81 hectares. There are a total of 185 waste landfills on the Directorate’s balance, with nearly a quarter of them already reclaimed.
