The German set a world record by collecting 11 thousand snowballs

Visitors to the house of Joseph Cardinal in Nuremberg, Germany, fall into a real winter fairy tale. Here, among the shelves and showcases, there is a unique collection of 11 thousand snowballs. This makeshift exhibition presented Joseph with the official Guinness World Record.

The history of the hobby began in 1984, when Joseph received his first snowball as a gift. "My friends kept buying them for me, and at one point I realized: why shouldn't I buy them myself?" - recalls the collector. Since then, every trip with my wife has turned into a search for new examples.

"People love snowballs because they embody an ideal world. It's clear that the world is unreal, and that's precisely why we strive for it," Joseph explains his passion.

The central exhibit of the collection is the oldest sphere - a miniature Eiffel Tower on a glass sphere, created in Paris in 1889. There are also personalized examples, such as a sphere depicting the collector's private house or specially made in honor of the 10th-thousandth exhibit.

The collection is impressive not only in quantity, but also in variety. There are tiny club balls and huge club balls taller than their owner. Among the most unusual exhibits are a balloon in the shape of a Coca-Cola phone, a sinking Titanic, and a helicopter with Santa Claus at the helm. A special place is occupied by balloons on the theme of "Harry Potter," "Star Wars," and even a commemorative copy of "Crown-2020" depicting a snowman in a protective mask.

Despite his love for the theme of winter, Joseph himself prefers sunny weather. "It doesn't snow much in Nuremberg, so I see the most snow on my balloons," he says with a smile.
