On November 29, the foundation stone was laid for a solid household waste recycling and electricity generation plant in Chust district of Namangan region. The project will be implemented by China’s ecological company, China Everbright International.
The total cost of the project amounts to $141.5 million. The plant is capable of processing up to 1,500 tons of waste per day and generating 227.5 million kWh of electricity annually.
As part of the project, 150-200 new jobs will be created. The plant is scheduled to be operational by 2027.
The electricity produced will be sold to the government under a guaranteed contract for 30 years. Construction works are being carried out within the framework of a program to build facilities specialized in thermal waste processing in nine regions of Uzbekistan.
Similar plants have also begun construction this year in the Andijan, Samarkand, and Fergana regions.
