Uzbekistan plans to update its railway fleet and launch new routes

A large-scale modernization of the rolling stock in Uzbekistan's railway sector is planned. These initiatives are outlined in a draft presidential decree, which is part of the priority reform program within the framework of the “Year of Development of Mahalla and Enhancement of Public Welfare” and linked to the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy.
“Uzbekistan Railways” plans to produce 1,000 new freight wagons to update the freight transportation fleet and to prepare 50 passenger wagons to modernize the passenger transportation system.
As part of the locomotive fleet renewal, it is planned to purchase 25 diesel and 25 hybrid shunting locomotives.
Along with technical upgrades, the launch of new passenger routes is also planned. This includes the introduction of a high-speed electric train on the Tashkent — Khiva route, as well as the organization of modern electric train services on the Tashkent — Bekobod route.
These measures aim to increase the throughput capacity of the railways, reduce travel time for passengers, and enhance the efficiency of freight transportation to better meet the economic needs of the country.
