The government of Uzbekistan, based on proposals from the Ministry of Justice, has abolished more than 1,600 mandatory requirements and restrictions related to entrepreneurship activities. It should be noted that the cancellation of such a significant number of regulations is being implemented for the first time in the country’s history.
Which restrictions were removed?
Following the approval of the government decision, several excessive obligations and barriers for entrepreneurs have been eliminated. The most significant changes include:
- Conformity certificate: The requirement to obtain a conformity certificate for products under the control of veterinary services—affecting 1,568 product categories—has been abolished.
- Tourism services: Unnecessary restrictions unrelated to tourism-related activities have been removed in the tourism sector.
Individual entrepreneurs (IE):
- The $5,000 limit for importing goods in individual entrepreneurial activities has been lifted.
- The prohibition on renting out homes to tourists for up to 30 days has been eliminated.
- Certain excessive requirements regarding wooden furniture production have also been canceled.
Efficiency and cost-saving
As a result of this large-scale liberalization, entrepreneurs will face significantly fewer bureaucratic barriers when interacting with administrative bodies. This will, in turn, help save their:
- Expenditures;
- Time;
- Financial resources.
Registry and future plans
It has been reported that more than 36,000 mandatory requirements are currently included in the single electronic registry of entrepreneurial activities. The Ministry of Justice is working on regular proposals aimed at creating additional conveniences for entrepreneurs and reducing bureaucratic barriers in various sectors.
These reforms are regarded as a crucial step toward enhancing the business environment and increasing economic activity in Uzbekistan.
