The procedure for conducting currency transactions in banks in Uzbekistan is being simplified. According to the new rules, citizens will be able to buy or receive cash foreign currency up to a certain amount without presenting an identity document.
It is reported that bank customers will now be able to purchase cash foreign currency equivalent to up to 500 US dollars without showing a passport, ID card, or other identity documents. This change is expected to significantly simplify the process of using banking services.
The relevant document, developed on the initiative of the Ministry of Justice, was registered with the state on May 8, 2026. The document is registered under number 2886-12.
The main goal of this reform is to reduce excessive bureaucratic barriers in banking processes, create convenience for customers, and expand access to financial services.
Under the current procedure, the requirement for an identity document for certain currency transactions caused additional time and formal processes for customers. The new rule allows for faster and simpler execution of small currency transactions.
This will be especially convenient for citizens who want to buy a small amount of currency for travel, personal needs, or daily financial transactions. Simply put, there may no longer be a need to waste time looking for documents every time for transactions up to 500 dollars.
The new rules will officially come into force in three months — in August 2026. From that time on, banks are expected to serve customers based on this procedure.
According to experts, such relaxations will serve to increase trust in the banking system, increase the use of official currency exchange services, and make financial operations more convenient for citizens.
In short, another excessive barrier in the process of buying currency in banks is being reduced. Simplicity for small transactions means time savings for the customer and faster service for the bank.
