The investigative film "Vika's Last Assignment" by the "Slidstvo.Info" publication, published on Monday, March 3, alleges that Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna, who was detained by Russia in the summer of 2023, was brutally tortured. She had stab wounds on her body, the journalist weighed up to 30 kilograms, and the Russian colony staff hid her from inspection, Ukrainian investigators claim.
Journalists from "Slidstvo.Info", together with colleagues from the "Suspilne" TV channel and the "Grati" program, as well as the organization "Reporters without Borders", have established that the Russians first held Roshchina in illegal detention centers in the occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region, and then took her to Taganrog, Russia.
Investigators took testimony from her cellmate about what happened to her in the Melitopol and Energodar pre-trial detention centers and Taganrog pre-trial detention center No. 2: she was tortured, and the journalist had wounds on her body. "I saw several stab wounds on her body - on her arms and legs, of course. There was a fresh scar in the soft tissues between her arm and elbow. And the scar was about three centimeters long," says her cellmate. Roshchina was also tortured with electric shocks. “I know that she was tortured with electric shocks several times,” recalls her cellmate, who suggests that the shock may have been applied to Victoria’s ear.
Roshchina lost up to 30 kg in weight
“She was always asking for help. At first she said she had stomach problems and a fever. Then the women noticed that she was losing a lot of weight. Vika weighed up to 30 kg. I helped her get up, because she was in such a state that she could not even lift her head,” recalls Roshchina’s cellmate.
According to her, Victoria was hidden during an inspection of the colony by the Russian Ombudsman, and then transferred to a closed room on another floor. The Ukrainian journalist was last seen on September 8, 2024, when she was taken from her cell to an unknown location.
Earlier, journalists from the website "Slidstvo.Info" told about the sailor Inga Chekinda, who was captured along with other Ukrainian defenders during the defense of Mariupol. A year later, Inga was in the Taganrog pre-trial detention center, where Viktoria Roshchina is being held. According to her, the Russians built a huge human-sized furnace in the prison and used it to interrogate Ukrainian prisoners. She added that the prison guards brutally tortured, beat and forced women to perform sexual acts.
