Telegram's monthly audience has exceeded 1 billion active users. This was announced by the founder of the messenger Pavel Durov.
According to him, Telegram has risen to second place among the most popular applications for exchanging information in the world (apart from China's WeChat).
Telegram is followed by WhatsApp, which Durov called a "cheap" and "shallow" imitation of his messenger. "For many years, they have tried their best to copy our innovations, spending billions on lobbying and PR campaigns to slow us down. They have failed. Telegram has grown, become profitable and, unlike our competitors, has retained its independence. We are just getting started,” Durov writes.
Durov also reported that user activity is increasing. He noted that each user opens Telegram on average 21 times a day and spends 41 minutes on it every day. According to Durov, revenue in 2024 amounted to $ 547 million.
In April 2024, Durov said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that he expects to reach a billion users within a year. He also wrote in December that Telegram’s total revenue for the year had exceeded $ 1 billion. According to him, the number of subscribers to the paid Telegram Premium service, which appeared in 2022, exceeded 12 million.
