Ethel Caterham, living in Surrey County, England, has been considered the oldest woman in the world since April 30. Her long life and active lifestyle inspire many people.
Caterham was born on August 21, 1909, in Hampshire County. She was a member of a family with eight children and experienced many difficulties throughout her life. Her sister, Gladys Babilas, also lived a long life and died in 2002 at the age of 104.
Ethel lost her spouse in 1976, and also two of her children did not live to old age.
