The prestigious US think tank Rand Corporation published its next analytical report on May 29. It was developed on the order of the US Air Force and analyzes possible military conflict scenarios between NATO and Russia. The main conclusion of the study is that the decisive factor in such a conflict this time may be air superiority.
As Rand experts emphasize, the potential air superiority of the North Atlantic Alliance allows for rapid and highly dynamic operations, avoiding positional, "stagnant" warfare on the front. This, in their opinion, will be completely different from the current scenario in the Russia-Ukraine war.
What lessons did NATO learn from Ukraine?
The report analyzes the conclusions that NATO and the United States have drawn from the events in Ukraine over the past three years. In particular, it is noted that the effectiveness of small drones and electronic warfare weapons play a decisive role on the Russia-Ukraine front. However, NATO countries, in particular the United States, admit that they are facing a certain technological lag in these areas.
At the same time, experts also note the weaknesses of the alliance countries in the defense industry. In their opinion, NATO countries are significantly lagging behind Russia in the production of the necessary number of shells and ammunition. If this problem is not resolved in the near future, it can lead to serious obstacles in a large-scale conflict.
Nevertheless, NATO will retain its superiority
The authors of the Rand report note that, despite the problems mentioned above, NATO will continue to be superior to Russia in terms of military power, technical superiority, and the ability to coordinate joint operations. In particular, NATO's technological potential and rapid action capabilities create a significant advantage in the field of air forces.
Experts consider this analysis to be an important document in understanding the possible global geopolitical balance. Rand's findings will be of particular importance not only in shaping US and NATO strategy, but also in assessing the European security environment. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
