US President Donald Trump announced that starting August 1, a 30% tariff will be imposed on goods imported from Mexico and the European Union. This decision was made after negotiations with major US trade partners ended without results.
These tariffs may directly affect trade chains between the US, the EU, and Mexico. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called for a calm response to such a threat and emphasized that the country's sovereignty can never be a subject of negotiation. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the tariffs would negatively impact transatlantic economic relations and stated that retaliatory measures would be taken if necessary.
Trump has also sent similar letters to 23 other countries, stating that tariffs between 20% and 50% may be imposed. These countries include Canada, Japan, and Brazil. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
