Military operations in the Gaza Strip have entered a new phase. As a result of the latest operation carried out by the Israeli army, the city of Khan Yunis has been divided — into western and eastern parts. This was reported by several Israeli news agencies.
It was announced that the military operation named “Magen Oz” has been completed. This operation is of strategic importance for the Israeli army, and its main goal was to strike the Hamas forces in Khan Yunis and bring the city under control.
The corridor is approximately 15 kilometers long. Fighters from the Golani and Barak brigades participated in the operation. They moved toward each other from both sides and managed to unite. During several weeks, dozens of Hamas fighters were eliminated, and underground tunnels, arms depots, and other targets were also hit.
Currently, the Gaza Strip has been almost completely segmented. The previously built Morag corridor separated the city of Rafah from Khan Yunis. The newly created “Magen Oz” corridor splits Khan Yunis itself into sections.
Israeli military officials state that they are pursuing two main objectives: first — to complicate Hamas logistics, second — to create safe routes for humanitarian needs. According to them, this tactic helps to “simplify the battlefield”.
Meanwhile, international observers have started to seriously evaluate the new situation. The uninterrupted division of residential areas may lead to serious consequences not only from a military but also from a humanitarian perspective.
The current situation shows that the structure of Gaza is becoming more complex and conflicted. As new fronts and corridors expand, the scope of influence grows, but at the same time, issues of safety and humanity are becoming more urgent.
Opinions vary, but unfortunately, the conflict has not yet come to a stop. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
