A major leap in tourism: Saudi becomes world’s leader
In the global tourism industry, an unexpected leader emerged in the early months of 2025. Saudi Arabia ranked first in the world in terms of tourism revenue growth, reported the press service of the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

According to the ministry’s data, in the first quarter of 2025, foreign tourists spent $13.2 billion in Saudi Arabia. This figure is approximately 10 percent higher compared to the same period in 2024. It is not only a sign of economic growth, but also a result of the country's serious focus on the tourism sector.

It is noteworthy that the number of foreign visitors also increased sharply — 102 percent more compared to the same period in 2019. This figure is 3 percent higher than the global average and 44 percent higher than the Middle Eastern average.

Such rapid growth of Saudi Arabia indicates that the country is moving closer to its long-term strategic goals. The Kingdom has set very high targets: attracting around 150 million foreign tourists annually and becoming one of the world’s top tourist destinations.

These results are considered the outcome of reforms and investments carried out under the “Vision 2030” strategic program. Saudi is actively working not only in pilgrimage tourism (Hajj and Umrah), but also in cultural, sports, and ecotourism sectors.

Recently held international exhibitions, sports competitions, and cultural festivals have significantly changed Saudi’s image on the global map. Digitizing visa procedures, modernizing infrastructure, and improving visitor convenience are yielding positive results.

This visible growth positively impacts not only tourism, but also hospitality, logistics, trade, and service sectors. Saudi Arabia aims to diversify its traditionally oil-based economy, and tourism is becoming one of the leading drivers of this process.

Undoubtedly, Saudi’s successful steps will serve as an example for other countries as well. The transformation of the country into an even more open and modern tourist destination will surely encourage new records in the coming months.
