Israel intensified strikes in Syria, the US is concerned

The Middle Eastern sky is once again filled with danger — after the Israeli army launched new strikes on the center of Damascus, the US administration expressed concern and called for an end to military actions, reported axios.com.

On July 16, the Trump administration appealed to the Israeli government to stop airstrikes against Syria and establish direct dialogue with Damascus. Journalist Barak Ravid reported this on his social media page. According to him, it is unclear whether this request was made before or after Israel’s latest strikes.

The current situation is quite tense. On July 15, the Israeli army attacked armored vehicles in Syria, and on July 16, the strikes became more serious — the General Staff building of the Syrian Armed Forces and military facilities near the presidential palace were targeted.

Amid these actions, the deployment of Syrian government forces in the As-Suwayda province and the strengthening of protection for the Druze community have led to various analyses. Israeli officials explain these airstrikes as an attempt to neutralize that protection.

This situation has also caused serious concern in Washington. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the American side is holding active diplomatic talks with the parties to the conflict. He emphasized that the situation could get out of control, and establishing direct dialogue between the two countries is the most reasonable path today.

According to analysts, if the intensity of the military clashes is not reduced, a new conflict may flare up across the entire region. Every new strike could affect not only the two countries but also the relations between their international allies.

In the coming days, diplomatic activity around the region is increasing. For example, diplomats from the UN and the European Union have also declared their readiness for personal negotiations to resolve the conflict.
