One of the leaders of the Brazilian national team and Real Madrid star, Vinicius Junior, claimed his rights in the next court battle.
According to reports, the La Coruña businessman registered a brand bearing the footballer's name in his name in 2018. However, Vinicius Junior officially registered the "Vinicius Jr." trademark a year earlier - in 2017. Therefore, the footballer appealed to the court to protect his rights.
As reported by Sport.es, the accused businessman, in his defense, claimed that "at that time, Vinicius wasn't well-known to the general public and that the name had nothing to do with the footballer."
However, the court found the businessman's claim unfounded. Interestingly, he also tried to sue the footballer in 2023, when he linked his brand to the history of the Roman Empire and his personal family heritage. However, even then, the court did not accept his reasons.
In the end, the Courts of La Coruña and Province ruled to satisfy the claim filed by Vinicius Junior. Thus, the businessman's registration of the brand in his name was canceled, and he was obliged to pay court costs.
Thus, Vinicius Junior achieved an important victory not only on the field, but also in the legal field. His name and brand have now been officially enshrined as the player's personal right.
This decision is of great importance for the athlete, since in modern football, along with field results, a personal brand is also very valuable. Vinicius's successful performances in recent years and worldwide recognition have made his brand even more valuable.
