Xavier Milei's party won the election

Argentina President Javier Milei led his "Free Argentina" party to a major victory in the midterm elections, BBC reports. The head of state consolidated his position with two years of market reforms and extensive cuts in government spending.

According to the election results, the ruling party secured nearly 41 percent of the votes, gaining 13 out of 24 seats in the Senate and 64 out of 127 seats in the Chamber of Deputies. This gives the president more opportunities to implement his program of regulating the economy and reducing government spending.

On the eve of the elections, Milei's ally, former US President Donald Trump, announced $40 billion in aid to Argentina. However, Trump emphasized that this decision depended on the political stability of Milei's government.

This statement was criticized by the opposition, accusing Trump of interfering in Argentina’s internal affairs.
