Japan’s Ministry of Defense reported that Russian and Chinese military aircraft conducted a joint flight near the country. Two Russian bombers met with two Chinese bombers and flew a long distance together.
The flight passed between the Okinawa and Miyako islands near Japan. Japan sent its fighter jets into the air to monitor these actions. It was also said that three other Russian military aircraft were detected near Japan.
Japan’s defense minister described this flight as pressure on the country and a show of force. He said Japan had taken all necessary measures to ensure its air safety.
South Korea also reported that several Russian and Chinese aircraft passed near its airspace on the same day. Experts believe that the growing attention of the two countries to such joint flights increases concern in the region.
