The Belgium national team secured their spot in the FIFA World Cup by defeating Liechtenstein 7-0 in their final Group J match. The hosts took the initiative from the very start of the game and quickly opened the scoring.
A throw-in from the right flank was capitalized on by Hans Vanaken, who headed the ball into the net following a defensive error by the opposition. Belgium then strengthened their lead through moments of individual brilliance.
Alexis Saelemaekers delivered a cross from the right side, and Jeremy Doku converted twice, bringing the score to 3-0 before halftime. Liechtenstein struggled to leave their defensive half.
The visitors mostly stayed near their penalty area and rarely ventured beyond the midfield. The second half saw no major changes in gameplay.
Belgium continued their aggressive attacks, utilizing the flanks and set-piece opportunities. First, Brandon Mechele found the net after a pass from Youri Tielemans, making it 4-0.
Next, Saelemaekers scored the fifth goal, firing in a rebound from a long-range attempt. Charles De Ketelaere also made his mark.
He successfully finished a one-on-one opportunity and later scored again by capitalizing on a deflection from a shot by Thomas Meunier, bringing the final score to 7-0. With this victory, Belgium secured their place in the World Cup, while Liechtenstein finished the qualification phase without any points or goals.
