A video showing Minister of Culture Ozodbek Nazarbekov singing at a wedding ceremony sparked widespread discussion on social media. The video shows the minister singing on stage, during which he was given money, and he was receiving it. The footage spread quickly on social networks and aroused various reactions.
Sirojiddin Usarov, head of the press service of the Ministry of Culture, commented on this situation to Kun.uz. He noted that the incident in the video occurred on October 25, 2025, at the wedding of one of the ministry employees.
The official statement notes that the money transfer shown in the video was not planned in advance. The situation arose spontaneously, and it was taken into account that a sharp rejection of the will of citizens could put them in an awkward position in front of the public. That is, it is said that the minister expressed a positive attitude towards the situation, since there is a possibility that this situation will be misunderstood by some as discrimination or disregard.
The Ministry drew attention to another important aspect: according to current legislation, it is not prohibited to give or not give money to singers at wedding ceremonies. This process is evaluated as part of national customs and values that have been formed among the people for centuries. It is also noted that in Uzbek traditions, such cases are perceived as "dreams."
Officials also noted that Ozodbek Nazarbekov is not only the Minister of Culture, but also a famous Uzbek singer. He is a People's Artist of Uzbekistan, Karakalpakstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as an Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Therefore, it is said that the situation observed at the wedding ceremony should be considered as a situation related to his professional activity - the art of national singing.
