FIFA Removes Poster Following Criticism

FIFA has removed the official poster for the 2026 World Cup from its social media platforms following criticism. This was reported by SPORTbible.

The poster depicted players from the 42 teams that qualified for the group stage. Each country was represented by a single footballer.

From Portugal, "Manchester United" midfielder Bruno Fernandes was chosen to appear on the poster. However, this selection upset fans of legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner. Following complaints from fans, FIFA decided to take down the poster from its pages.

The poster also featured Uzbekistan's Eldor Shomurodov. Ronaldo, who is currently 40 years old and playing for Saudi Arabian club "Al-Nassr," had previously stated that the 2026 World Cup would be his last.

The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time, 48 teams will compete in the event, with the final match scheduled at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

In the European qualifiers, 12 national teams will compete in playoff matches for four remaining spots. Another two spots will be determined through intercontinental playoffs.
