In Matchday 19 of La Liga, Valencia almost completely controlled Elche at Mestalla, but the game’s script was pushing the hosts to the brink of defeat. The visitors hit the target only twice, yet the match ended in a very tense fashion. This was reported by euro-football.ru. reports .
The first half was sluggish. Early in the second half, Pepelu’s long-range shot missed the target by a very small margin. Then, in the 75th minute, another attempt from outside the box turned into a goal — Grady Diangana opened the scoring.
But 10 minutes later Diangana became the anti-hero: he handled the ball in his own penalty area and conceded a penalty. Pepelu converted from the spot, the goalkeeper came very close to saving it, but the score was still level — 1–1.
Valencia kept up the pressure late on: the goalkeeper saved his team after a dangerous shot from inside the box by Largie Ramazani. In the end, the hosts couldn’t turn their dominance into a win.
In the standings, Elche sit 9th. Valencia are close to the bottom three: they are just one point behind the safety zone.
