Two more alcohol retail stores are planned to open in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Reuters reports. One of the new stores will be built in the eastern region, in the city of Dhahran, within the area belonging to the state-owned Aramco oil company.
This store will permit access to non-Muslim individuals. The second store is being established in the port city of Jeddah.
It is primarily intended for non-Muslim diplomats, as numerous foreign consulates are located in this area. This move is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's gradual effort to open up the country and ease restrictions as part of broader reforms.
Last year, the capital city of Riyadh saw the opening of its first alcohol store in 73 years, which was also designated for diplomats. The upcoming establishments will be the second and third locations in the kingdom dedicated to selling alcohol, which is generally strictly prohibited in Saudi Arabia.
