Two National Guard officers wounded near the White House

In Washington, D.C., at the corner of 17th and First Streets near the White House, two National Guard officers were wounded by gunfire. This information was confirmed by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, in an interview with CNN.

According to two sources within law enforcement, the officers were injured during a shootout involving the suspect. CNN sources also reported that the suspect was apprehended and transported from the scene in a medical vehicle.

At the time of the shooting, President Donald Trump was at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the president had been briefed about the incident.

The capital's police department announced via social media that the area is safe and the suspect is in custody. They also recommended that local residents avoid the vicinity of the incident.

Earlier, in August, President Trump issued an emergency executive order placing National Guard officers from several states under federal command. As a result, hundreds of National Guard personnel continue patrolling the streets of Washington, D.C.
