The major e-commerce platform Wildberries is planning to further expand its digital services. According to a report by RBK, the company is working on launching an online cinema. If the project is fully realized, Wildberries could establish a significant presence not only in the goods market but also in the video content market.
It has been reported that the company previously considered acquiring the Ivi streaming platform. However, it ultimately decided against purchasing an existing service and opted to create a brand-new online cinema from scratch. This decision highlights Wildberries’ commitment to a long-term and independent strategy.
Sources indicate that the new streaming platform is expected to launch in 2026. The content policy and creative direction might be overseen by Artur Janibekyan, the founder of Comedy Club Production. He is well-known for working on popular projects such as “Nasha Russia,” “Dom-2,” and “Universitet.”
Meanwhile, the press service of Wildberries, as well as RWB, which integrates Wildberries with the Russ outdoor advertising operator, did not provide specific comments on the matter. Company representatives neither confirmed nor denied the reports about the online cinema and stated that they would not comment on such speculations.
Notably, Wildberries has not limited itself to e-commerce in recent years. The company launched Wibes, a social network similar to TikTok, and its taxi service began operations in Uzbekistan in December 2023. Additionally, the acquisition of the Fun&Sun tour operator illustrates Wildberries’ rapid expansion of its services ecosystem.
If the plans for the online cinema materialize, Wildberries could become a major player in the streaming market in Russia and the region. This would intensify competition and offer viewers richer and more engaging content.
