A bridge crossing the Keles River collapsed in the village of Koshkarata in the Keles district of the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan. The incident occurred on December 18, according to media reports citing local authorities.
According to available information, cracks were noticed on the bridge shortly before the collapse, and traffic was temporarily restricted as a safety measure. As a result of the incident, no casualties were reported.
Emergency services, law enforcement agencies, and representatives of local executive authorities are currently working at the scene. Preliminary conclusions indicate that the collapse was caused by the long-term use of the bridge and the washing away of the base of its supports due to water flow.
It is reported that the bridge is under the authority of the Turkestan regional Department of Passenger Transport and Automobile Roads and is currently undergoing emergency repairs. Residents have been temporarily advised to use alternative routes of 10–15 kilometers through the rural districts of Alpamys and Birtilek.
Officials state that the situation is fully under control.
