A seminar dedicated to reforming the public procurement system was held at the World Bank office in Tashkent. The event was organized as part of the visit by Felipe Goya, head of procurement for the Europe and Central Asia region at the World Bank. This was reported by uzdaily.uznewsreports.
The seminar was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade, operators of electronic platforms for public procurement, as well as representatives from international financial institutions. Among them were specialists from the Asian Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank, alongside the World Bank.
During the discussion, pressing directions for further improving the public procurement system in Uzbekistan were examined. The results of assessments conducted by the World Bank were presented, reviewing the current state of ongoing reforms, existing obstacles, and recommendations for system enhancement.
Additionally, conclusions from studies aimed at strengthening the capacity of state bodies in the procurement sector in Uzbekistan, conducted by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, were discussed. Special attention was given to priority measures for implementing electronic public procurement (eGP) systems in certain sectors, as well as expanding the practice of 'green' public procurement, which involves prioritizing environmentally friendly and energy-efficient products and services.
Participants also discussed mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of measures designed to ensure transparency and efficiency. The seminar served as an open dialogue platform among government agencies, international partners, and experts, facilitating the coordination of approaches to modernizing and digitizing public procurement in Uzbekistan.
