Reports have emerged in the media indicating that food shortages in the Russian army have become a serious problem, and in some cases, extremely horrific events, namely cases of cannibalism (the consumption of another individual of the same species), are being observed. In particular, information released by The Sunday Times states that some military personnel serving in frontline areas have resorted to drastic measures due to severe conditions.
According to the publication, the information is based on materials provided by Ukrainian military intelligence — photographic evidence and a number of audio recordings. They state that instances of mutual violence and cannibalism, which contradicts human dignity, have been recorded among certain military personnel.
Such incidents are said to have occurred throughout 2025 in the territories of the Donetsk region. The reports mention that extreme cases (cannibalism) are arising among the military as a result of severe supply problems, exhaustion, and psychological pressure.
Furthermore, the circulated audio recordings note that some officers reported personnel complaining about the lack of food and harsh conditions. In some instances, it is said that commanders issued strict orders to maintain discipline.
According to experts, disruptions in the military supply system and difficult conditions at the front may be the reason for the emergence of such reports. At the same time, it is also noted that it is difficult to fully verify such information through independent sources.
In general, these reports once again demonstrate the critical importance of the human factor, supply, and psychological state in wartime conditions.
