For many, due to lack of time, eating on the go has become commonplace, but doctors once again remind that this habit is a serious health hazard, reports gazeta.ru. Olga Tarasova, associate professor of the Department of Pediatrics at Pirogov University’s Hospital No. 2, stressed that eating hastily, without chewing thoroughly and while moving, causes stress in the human body, as a result of which the gastrointestinal tract suffers.
According to Tarasova, the process of digestion begins in the oral cavity. If a person eats while running or riding in a moving car, they chew less, which limits the function of enzymes in the mouth, and the gastrointestinal tract does not have time to prepare. As a result, the body produces cortisol — the stress hormone, and the body cannot fully digest food.
The specialist notes: if this process becomes regular, it leads to overeating, a feeling of heaviness, that is, to conditions where satiety is not achieved. In such eating, mainly fatty and carbohydrate-rich fast foods are consumed, and protein is little. This quickly dissipates the feeling of fullness, forcing the person to eat again, and also leads to metabolic diseases, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases.
Doctors also draw attention to another point: hasty eating dissolves gastrointestinal enzymes, leading to disruption of intestinal microflora, gastritis, colitis, and functional bowel disorder syndrome. Among those who make a habit of eating on the go every day, digestive problems and the risk of cancer are higher.
Tarasova advises eating calmly, taking time for meals, chewing thoroughly, and sticking to a proper diet. This improves not only gastrointestinal health but also overall well-being and energy.
