Researchers at the University of South Australia have made a new and fascinating discovery related to human health. According to the study results, regular consumption of walnuts can reduce stress levels in the body, positively impact mental stability, and improve sleep quality. An article about this was published in the journal "Nutrients."
The scientists emphasize that this effect is linked to the positive influence of walnuts on gut microbiota. It is well known that intestinal microflora is directly connected to a person’s mental state and mood, and its negative changes can affect stress levels.
The study involved 80 students divided into two groups. The first group of volunteers was asked to consume a certain amount of walnuts daily. The second group continued their usual diet.
After 16 weeks of observation, researchers found that the students who regularly consumed walnuts showed significant improvement in mental health indicators, stabilized sleep patterns, and improved overall mood.
Meanwhile, students in the second group, especially before exams, experienced a sharp increase in stress levels and mental distress. This once again proved how important walnuts are for the human body.
According to experts, the beneficial properties of walnuts are due to their rich composition. They are a source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, melatonin, polyphenols, folic acid, and vitamin E, all essential for brain health.
Scientists conclude that this discovery may play an important role in shaping healthy nutrition programs and can be used as an effective natural tool against stress, especially for young people and students.
