A child who goes to bed late may have slower growth

Late bedtime and lack of sleep can have a negative effect on a child not only by causing fatigue, but also on growth and development. This is because the growth hormone is produced most actively during deep night sleep, especially between 23:00 and 01:00. If a child falls asleep after 22:00, the likelihood of “missing” this important phase increases.
When sleep decreases, a child may experience irritability, mood changes, reduced memory and attention, and slower reaction time. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure a normal amount of sleep according to age:
- 1–3 years — 11 hours
- 3–6 years — 10 hours
- 6–13 years — 9 hours
- 13–17 years — 8 hours
If a child gets sick frequently, their weight changes, growth slows down, or school performance worsens, it is necessary to adjust the daily routine and limit gadgets at least 2 hours before sleep. If the signs continue, it is recommended to consult a pediatrician and a pediatric endocrinologist.
