According to a recent study by scientists at Dayton University, an attractive appearance on social media doesn't always lead to popularity. The study examined the appearance of fitness influencers and the number of likes they collected.
It turned out that "very beautiful" bloggers received fewer likes and subscribers than "moderately attractive" bloggers. Experts explain this as follows: a perfect appearance makes a person "unattainable" for viewers, resulting in an emotional distance from the audience.
The authors of the study, Andrew Edelblum and Abby Frank, called this phenomenon the "reverse beauty effect." According to them, influencers can only be saved by sincerity - if a blogger openly talks about their difficulties or insecurities, the number of likes can increase dramatically.
"Humility and openness are the most powerful means of establishing genuine communication with the audience," the researchers say.
