The schoolboy made a scientific discovery in the laboratory

An 11th-grade student from the city of Pushino, Moscow region, accidentally encountered an important scientific discovery during a laboratory session at school. This was reported by the "MK" publication.

Nikolay Ulikov, while working with fungi, identified a bacterial strain that can stop the growth of mold and other fungi in plants. During the lesson, he and his classmates tried to grow hedgehog mushrooms in Petri dishes. Since the mushroom was taken from the wild, foreign microorganisms also entered the environment with it.

After some time, Ulikov noticed a small colony of bacteria surrounded by a sterile ring called "halo" on a Petri dish. It was found that no other microorganisms grew in this area.

Subsequent observations showed that the found bacterial strain secretes a substance that inhibits fungal growth. This substance forms a sterile zone around the colony.

According to Ulikov, the find has clear antifungal properties and may be of great interest for future scientific research. Such bacteria can be effectively used in agriculture to protect crops from fungal diseases without heavy chemical agents.
