Scientists determined sleep norms by age

Scientists recommend adults sleep about 8 hours — experts note that this is considered the most optimal norm for the body’s recovery and daytime activity. As age increases, the need for sleep changes, therefore sleep norms by age are set as follows:
Sleep norms by age:
-0–3 months — 14–17 hours
-4–11 months — 12–15 hours
-1–2 years — 11–14 hours
-3–5 years — 10–13 hours
-6–15 years — 9–11 hours
-14–17 years — 8–10 hours
-18–65 years — 7–9 hours
-65+ — 7–8 hours
Most importantly, sleeping less than 5–7 hours a day reduces a person’s lifespan by 12 percent — meaning if constant “lack of sleep” becomes a habit, pressure on health increases, the body gets tired faster, and the recovery process slows down.
