The Fatwa Committee announced the start date of Ramadan 2026

At a meeting held in Samarkand, the Fatwa Committee of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Institutions under the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) jointly determined the start of Ramadan 2026 and the days of Eid al-Fitr.

According to the joint decision, the first day of Ramadan in 2026 will fall on Thursday, February 19. It was determined that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, March 20.

According to sources, this general resolution once again demonstrates the desire to strengthen solidarity among Muslim communities in Turkic states, maintain uniformity in religious practices, and conduct this process in harmony with modern scientific approaches.

It was also noted that the meeting was held in Samarkand on February 2-4, 2026, and the event was organized under the leadership of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan. Representatives of the religious administrations of the member states of the organization and Islamic scholars participated in it.

The composition issue is also clearly stated: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan are listed as OTS member states. Turkmenistan and Hungary are mentioned as observer states.

In conclusion, this decision is not just a "calendar innovation" - in practice, it means the mood of Ramadan that begins simultaneously for Muslim communities in the same region, the spirit of Eid celebrated at the same time. Now, for the Muslim community, the most important thing is to set the dates for February 19th and March 20th in advance and calmly begin preparations.
