Many people perceive laziness as simply laziness, lack of willpower, or a person's personal flaw. But the truth is much deeper. According to scientific and psychological views, laziness is the result of certain programs and protective mechanisms activated in the human brain. That is, the problem is not in "not wanting," but in the state of "not being able to."
In fact, behind laziness lie unconscious processes aimed at protecting a person. The brain has always strived for safety and energy conservation. For this reason, in some situations, it tries to stop the action and return the person to a "calm state."
Experts identify three of the most common causes of laziness.
Lack of resources - a hidden reason
In many cases, a person has no strength left. The brain switches to energy-saving mode and evaluates activity as dangerous or excessive. This can sometimes be related to protective programs passed down through generations. In earlier times, it was considered safe to do little to survive. Today, the sofa, phone, or TV series serve as this "safe bush."
Interhemispheric rupture
The right hemisphere dreams, and the left hemisphere makes plans. If they "lose contact" with each other, a person cannot move. There is a desire, but it is unknown how to fulfill it. As a result, the brain stops activity and puts a person in a passive state.
Perception of activity as stress, inactivity as pleasure
If in childhood you often heard phrases like "sit quietly" and "don't disturb," the brain attributes activity to cortisol - the stress hormone. On the contrary, in a child praised for sitting quietly, inactivity harmonizes with dopamine - the pleasure hormone. When you grow up, the brain searches for dopamine and encourages a person to remain inactive.
Therefore, forcing yourself to "get up, move" is often ineffective. On the contrary, this strengthens internal resistance and creates a feeling of worthlessness in a person.
The important thing is that you don't have to fight laziness. It's not about "fighting" with him, but about understanding him. The main task is to gradually reconfigure the interfering programs in the brain, restore the resource state, and improve the compatibility between the hemispheres.
Then enthusiasm, effort, and the pursuit of a goal will arise spontaneously. And laziness disappears slowly. In this process, understanding yourself, not blaming yourself, is the most correct step.
