Doctors and scientists have provided detailed insights into how insomnia affects human life and its impact on longevity. Researchers from Oregon Health & Science University have determined in their studies that insomnia has a more significant effect on life expectancy than factors such as poor nutrition and physical inactivity.
The researchers analyzed data obtained from various counties in the United States to determine these factors, including nutrition, harmful habits, physical activity, and sleep duration. While previous research often focused on nutrition and physical activity, this study clearly demonstrated the substantial impact of insomnia on longevity.
The researchers also emphasized that insomnia frequently contributes to an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, weakened immunity, and infections. Chronic insomnia disrupts the brain's cognitive functions, reducing memory, attention, and reaction times. This process unfolds gradually and subtly, significantly affecting individuals' daily lives over time.
In addition, the scientists underlined the connection between insomnia and social factors, such as loneliness and physical inactivity. One of the critical factors impacting longevity, they found, is the lack of regular sleep.
Maintaining a routine of regular and healthy sleep, along with paying attention to overall health, helps prevent excessive stress and physical disorders in daily life.
