Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking in the UK Parliament on Tuesday, March 17th, stated that 201 Ukrainian military specialists are currently working in Middle Eastern countries, and another 34 are "ready for deployment."
As Zelenskyy emphasized, this refers to professional military personnel who know how to protect against Shahed-type drones, which Russia regularly attacks Ukraine.
"Our groups are already operating in the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, and are also heading to Kuwait. Cooperation with other countries has already begun. "We do not want Iran to continue its threat in the region," he said.
The President also noted that the decision to send experts was made at the request of Ukraine's international partners, including the US.
Zelenskyy also stressed that against the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East, allies should not forget about Ukraine and warned about the threats created by cooperation between the Russian and Iranian regimes.
"The regimes in Russia and Iran are intertwined on the basis of hatred, even in terms of weapons. And we aimed to show that regimes based on hatred will not win," Zelenskyy said.
Kir Starmer, in turn, promised not to allow the war in Iran to disregard the conflict in Ukraine.
Following the negotiations in London, Zelenskyy and Starmer signed a declaration aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of security and defense. The Declaration provides for the activities of states in such areas as the development of a joint defense-industrial and technological ecosystem, the creation of production lines, the implementation of scientific research and innovations, the integration of the supply chain of defense products, and the strengthening of industrial partnerships.
As emphasized in a UK government press release, this cooperation demonstrates that Ukraine is not only a state protecting its territory from aggression but also contributing to the security of its partners and strengthening the overall defense of Europe.
