Exercise reduces insomnia and depression

Physical activity can significantly reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms in people suffering from insomnia. This conclusion was made by scientists who deeply analyzed the results of several clinical trials. The publication of this research in the prestigious scientific journal Physiology & Behavior (P&B) further increases its significance.
The researchers systematically studied seven separate scientific papers involving 336 adult participants who experienced chronic insomnia. In this process, the meta-analysis method was used, various results were combined, and general conclusions were drawn. As part of the experiments, walking, strength training, yoga, and various other physical exercises were tested. Training programs usually lasted from eight weeks to six months.
The obtained results showed that regular physical exercises reduced the level of anxiety in the participants and significantly alleviated the depressive mood. At the same time, it was noted that the severity of insomnia decreased in them, and the quality of sleep improved. Objective measurements showed a decrease in wakefulness during the night, which indicates a deep and qualitative recovery of sleep.
According to scientists, physical activity can serve as an inexpensive, safe, and effective alternative or supplementary method for treating insomnia. The authors of the study note that exercises not only allow a person to sleep better, but also have a positive effect on mental health, which is often disrupted in cases associated with long-term sleep disorders.
In conclusion, regular physical activity helps maintain health not only to the body, but also to the mind. Thus, sports and movement can serve as the simplest, but effective "natural remedy" in combating insomnia and depression.
