Marriages are declining, while divorces are increasing at a record rate
The latest information about family relations in Uzbekistan raises serious concerns. In the first half of 2025, that is, from January to June, 95,300 marriages were officially registered across the country. This is 2,100 fewer than in the same period of the previous year.

Against the backdrop of these numbers, a more alarming fact is observed — the number of divorces continues to grow. In the first six months of this year, 23,300 families officially broke up. This is 800 more than last year. That is, marriages are decreasing, but divorces are steadily increasing.

Experts explain this trend in different ways. Some link it to socio-economic difficulties, others — to the changing views in modern society, a desire for independence, and growing demands in personal life.

This situation is especially visible in Tashkent. Although family is considered sacred in the national mentality, some couples in the capital are in no hurry to marry. Moreover, many of those who do marry separate in a short time.

According to psychologists and sociologists, many couples enter into marriage without making the right choice. This later leads to misunderstandings and conflicts. Difficult living conditions, unemployment, and housing problems are also cited as major factors influencing divorce rates.

At the same time, some experts do not see such sharp figures as a negative thing but as a sign of psychological improvement in society. In their opinion, the idea that “an honest divorce is better than living in an unhealthy relationship” is spreading widely — and this shows respect for personal values.

In addition, government organizations are implementing various projects to prevent divorces. Recently, in Tashkent, counseling centers based on a psychophysiological approach were established to resolve stress and misunderstandings in relationships. These centers provide professional help to families and strengthen relationships.

Changes are also being observed in the legislation. Now in certain cases, for example, in situations of domestic violence, it is possible to quickly annul a marriage through court. This is considered one of the important steps taken to ensure the safety of women and children.

In conclusion, the difference between the number of marriages and divorces reflects not only personal choices but also broader social changes. Creating a family without proper preparation, lack of mutual respect, and financial difficulties all affect the stability of every family.

Each divorce is not just the problem of two individuals but of society as a whole. Therefore, people should approach marriage seriously and responsibly, and those who are already married should rely on patience, respect, and communication. Because a strong family is the foundation of a strong society.
