Divorce is not just the end of a marriage, but for many men it is a severe psychological blow, a loss of key life supports, and a decline in physical well-being. A new study analyzing data from over 106 million men worldwide confirms this once again.
According to scientists, divorced men are at least five times more likely to commit suicide than those who are married. The most vulnerable group is men under the age of 35. For them, the risk can increase ninefold due to social isolation, loneliness, and the loss of their main emotional support — their spouse.
Experts emphasize that this situation should not be viewed as merely a personal issue. Men often hide their inner pain and avoid expressing emotional suffering, which is why suicidal tendencies can often go unnoticed by others.
The study also notes that divorced men frequently suffer from mental health problems, sleep disorders, excessive alcohol consumption, and declining performance at work. In addition, negative social stereotypes towards divorced men add further pressure.
The researchers call on governments and the public to pay serious attention to the needs of men during the post-divorce period. Psychological support, opportunities for social connection, and adaptation programs tailored to men may help alleviate the issue.
Most importantly, regardless of how a relationship ends, the mental health of each individual reflects the overall well-being of society. Especially during life trials such as divorce, men deserve to be heard, understood, and supported. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
