A technogenic incident that occurred in Tashkent at night alarmed the entire population of the city. On the night of July 21, a large amount of hydrogen peroxide substance leaked into the open air from one of the industrial warehouses located in the Almazar district.
Around 03:30, emergency services received a report that a smell was spreading and the air was filled with unusual density on Uzumbog street in the Almazar district. A sharp chemical smell resembling sulfur matches was observed in the area. Videos related to this were widely shared on social networks. They show heavy smoke covering the air and several ambulances heading to the scene.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, specialists from the Tashkent city emergency department, particularly from the radiation, chemical, and medical-biological protection units, arrived at the scene quickly and assessed the situation. Preliminary information indicates that hydrogen peroxide stored in the warehouse leaked into the air due to some technical malfunction or transportation-related issue.
This substance is considered highly reactive and can pose a serious threat to human health. Specifically, it is highly likely to have adverse effects on the respiratory tract, eyes, and skin.
The MES reports that the situation was completely eliminated by 04:00. All substances that leaked into the air were neutralized using special methods. Currently, there is no danger to residents in the surrounding area.
Local government officials also arrived at the scene and took the situation under personal control. Preventive and explanatory work is being carried out jointly with local community activists and sanitation services.
