Another road traffic accident in Tashkent has caused concern among many citizens. According to reports, the incident was recorded on July 20, 2025, at around 13:30 in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district, at the intersection of Oltintepa and Chakhbud streets.
First of all, this incident has once again brought the issue of road safety to the forefront. According to available information on how the incident occurred: two vehicles, Lacetti and Tracker, collided at the intersection. Notably, the driver of the Tracker lost control of the vehicle and hit a pedestrian standing on the roadside.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian died on the spot as a result of this tragic collision. According to eyewitnesses and camera footage, the cars were moving at a very high speed. The pedestrian, crossing at a marked area, was unable to protect himself due to their sudden movement.
Law enforcement authorities have initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. According to the law, violating the safety rules when using a vehicle that results in loss of life is punishable by up to 7 years in prison and revocation of the driver’s license.
Currently, preliminary investigative actions have begun, witnesses are being questioned, and technical examinations have been appointed.
Road safety experts point out that the main causes of such incidents are poor visibility at intersections, non-compliance with speed limits, and driver irresponsibility.
It is worth noting that before this incident, the mayor of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzoqov, approved a project worth 6 billion 912 million soums to improve pedestrian safety. These funds are allocated for installing metal barriers, additional road signs, and organizing pedestrian crossings.
Also, this year the state plans to reorganize the activity of the Republican Fund called “Safe Road and Safe Pedestrian.” For 2025, 400 billion soums have been allocated to the fund. It is planned to open branches in every region.
Additionally, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched a Situation Monitoring Center powered by artificial intelligence that analyzes events in real time. This system helps eliminate traffic jams and respond quickly to emergencies.
According to statistics, 9364 traffic accidents were recorded across the country in 2024. In these incidents, 2203 people lost their lives. Such situations once again show the importance of protecting pedestrians' lives and increasing responsibility among all road users.
Every human life is priceless. Every pedestrian is a family, a child, and a homeland. Therefore, both driver and pedestrian are equally responsible. Being cautious on the road, following the rules, and showing respect is a sacred duty for all of us. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
